Frank A. Hanna SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL
Cheswood Corporation Provided to the City Council
After Distribution of Packet
March 13, 2017 Date 3 'I 9 - 1 7
City Council, City of Pleasanton
200 Old Bernal Avenue
Pleasanton, CA 94566
c/o: citycouncil @cityof pleasantonca.gov;eholmgren @cityofpleasantonca.gov
RE: 2017-2018 WORK PLAN PRIORITIES—ROTARY PARK PHASE II
Dear Mayor Thorne and City Council Members:
I am writing to urge you to support Rotary Park Phase II as a high priority on the city's 2017-2018 Work
Plan Priorities List.
Phase I was a great addition to the northern Main Street gateway to Downtown Pleasanton when Rotary
Park was dedicated on April 30, 2015. Pleasanton's three Rotary Clubs—Rotary Club of Pleasanton,
Pleasanton North Rotary and Tri-Valley Evening Rotary-were honored to have the park renamed as
Rotary Park in recognition of our 50 years of service to the city. I'm sure my fellow Rotary members
would agree it was an honor and pleasure to donate the traditional street clock that has become the
park's centerpiece at Main Street and Vervais Avenue.
The city's commitment to a two-phase renovation of the 0.75 acre property has yet to be fulfilled. The
first phase, as laid out in the western most portion of the schematic park design by Keller Mitchell and
Company was completed in time for Rotary Park's dedication. It included plaza lights,a semi-circular
shade trellis, and game tables and chairs adjacent to the plaza and street clock.
These are excellent improvements, but they fell short of the vision of the original plan. Phase II extends
improvements to cover the entire 0.75 acre property and includes additional drought-proof landscaping,
a garden demonstration project, lighting, improved entry to the Centennial trail,a BBQ pit, picnic tables,
bocce ball courts, space for public art and on-site parking.
I strongly urge you to now to make phase II a high priority when you meet on March 14 to set the City
Council Priorities for 2017-2018. The improvement will complete the much need gateway to the north
end of the Downtown Business District and fulfill Rotary Park's potential as a quiet spot for family
oriented recreation and relaxation at the heart of our wonderful city.
Sin - -
alb-
. a na
Me ber, Pleasanton North Rotary
Pres •ent, Pleasanton North Rotary Foundation
