SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL
Provided to the City Council
After Distribution of Packet
Annette Brecheisen
From: Pleasanton City Clerk
Subject: Opposition to Proposed Water Pressure Boosting Station at Parkside Drive and Harvey
Court
From:Terri Ghio
Sent:Wednesday, March 08,2017 9:28 PM
To:Adam Nelkie<anelkie(dcitvofpleasantonca.gov>; Mayor and City Council<citvcouncil(alcitvofpleasantonca.gov>
Subject:Opposition to Proposed Water Pressure Boosting Station at Parkside Drive and Harvey Court
Hello Mr.Nelkie and the Pleasanton City Council,
I just received notice that the City of Pleasanton plans to install a recycled water pressure boosting station in the Ken
Mercer Sports Park at the intersection of Parkside Drive and Harvey Court.
I want to inform all involved parties that I am opposed to having the pressure boosting station at this location. I think it
would be better placed further away from our neighborhood, street, the baseball field and the park thorough fare.
Placement in the middle of the park or at Hart Middle School on an isolation pad would be preferable.
Here are my concerns;
I) What are the anticipated noise levels from this pumping station?
2) When does the City of Pleasanton plan to provide a demonstration of the noise levels and vibration that can be
expected from this pumping station?
3) What are the anticipated operating hours of this pumping station?
4) Will the pumping station be installed on an isolation pad that will not transfer vibration to the surrounding area?
5) Why can't this pumping station be installed at Hart Middle School?
6) Why can't this pumping station be installed in the middle of the Ken Mercer Park where it is farther from the
surrounding homes?
I have lived in the City of Pleasanton for ten years and have seen how the City approves projects and rezoning without
adequetly investigating alternatives or the impact on the community. I watched as the Summerhill project was rushed
through the planning commission. My neighbors and I have now endured noise and dust from this project for six days a
week since the destruction of the building on West Las Positas began. I look at that project and know that it does not
resemble the pictures that were shown to my neighbors and myself. One of my neighbors also just informed me that that
project will not have the amount of on site parking that was promised, which will inevitably affect the surrounding area
negatively. The Summerhill project and the rezoning of Hacienda Business Park was not well thought out and I have a
feeling neither has this pressure boosting station.
Currently the building on the corner of Hacienda and West Las Positas houses a generator that when it is run vibrates the
surrounding area. When the generator is run it vibrates my sons window and my entire house. My neighbors and I have
complained to the city and little has been done about this. This generator also needs to be placed on a special isolation
pad, but it has not been done.
I am assuming this pumping station will have a large pump and a motor to drive this pump. Has anyone heard what this
pump sounds like or how much noise it makes? Was an investigation conducted to find the quietest pump possible? Will
this pump ever cause vibration during it's useful life? Has any thought been given to the noise levels and the hours of
operation?
Honestly this seems like an easy fix for the City of Pleasanton, but not something that was thought out. If the residents of
Parkside were considered in this planning, this pump would have been placed somewhere else, like in the Hacienda
Business Park or at Heart School, which may still be too close to the Parkside neighborhood.
Thank you for your time,
Terri Ghio
1
