Designed by Dahlin Architects,it will provide affordable
housing at 30 to 50 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI)to approximately 30 individuals in a
setting that's similar to senior living. The units, designed as one-bedroom and studio apartments,
will allow residents the option to live as independently as possible, while still taking advantage of
the amenities of`community living.' Sunflower Hill is working with SAHA Housing and the Housing
Consortium of the East Bay as property managers and housing partners.
A large community center will offer activities and meal options to on-site residents as well as some
of the individuals with special needs living in the adjacent houses. Residents will have the ability to
attend their own off-site day programs, work or school or take advantage of the amenities within
the Sunflower Hill community. As appropriate, aides/caretakers,funded through Supportive
Living Services (SLS) via the Regional Center of the East Bay,will provide additional assistance.
A Pleasanton-based nonprofit organization,Sunflower Hill was created in 2012 by local
community leaders and parents in an effort to offer affordable housing choices for developmentally
delayed individuals. Nationwide, there are more than 5 million individuals with special needs-
most of whom will live with their parents their entire lives. Sunflower Hill seeks to change that
paradigm with affordable,sustainable,life-long residential communities similar to senior living.
Sunflower Hill • P.O.
