<br /> On February 7, the City Council will discuss and vote on the Irby Ranch Development As a close
<br /> neighbor to this new project,Valley Humane Society would like to express our support of this
<br /> development, specifically the Sunflower Hill project and the improvements this development will
<br /> have on our neighborhood We'd also like to express some of our concerns regarding the Nevada
<br /> Street expansion and how this will affect Valley Humane Society
<br /> s
<br /> Valley Humane Society is happy to see the City so supportive of a fellow non-profit, Sunflower Hill,
<br /> and we look forward to welcoming the new residents to the Irby Ranch community.We feel the
<br /> Irby Ranch Development as a whole will bring a vibrancy to our neighborhood that will help make
<br /> California and Nevada Street better.
<br /> With this support also come a few reservations and requests.The Irby Ranch Development will
<br /> push through the development and expansion of Nevada Street Though the expansion of Nevada
<br /> Street has been m the plans for many,many years,it appears the Irby Ranch project will finally make
<br /> this a reality The street expansion does have some downsides for Valley Humane Society.
<br /> The expansion of Nevada Street will eliminate all street parking on the curb closest to Valley
<br /> Humane's facility (Parking was granted by the City as an exception until the development of
<br /> Nevada Street occurred)Though parking will be allowed and expanded on the street across from
<br /> our building,we are very concerned for the thousands of children and adults who visit our facility
<br /> each year and the 160 community members volunteering each week to support our animals. Street
<br /> parking is a must for these supporters and they will all be crossing the street to access our building
<br /> We are asking that traffic mitigating devices be placed near our facility to ensure that pedestrians can
<br /> easily and safely cross the street As speed is already an issue in the California/Nevada Street area,
<br /> we'd also like to see traffic calming devices to ensure slower speeds are maintained
<br /> The street expansion also means a loss of usable land for Valley Humane Society. The back parking
<br /> lot,closest to the shed will be nearly cut in half.We'll lose 3 to 4 parking spaces and possibly be
<br /> asked to remove our storage shed. We understand that removal may be necessary, but the real
<br /> concern is that we may not be allowed to replace it or move it elsewhere on the property This shed
<br /> isn't simply a storage facility,it stores animal food and supplies that support hundreds of community
<br /> members in Pleasanton and Livermore
<br /> Through our partnership with Open Heart Kitchen,Valley Bible Church,Tn-Valley Haven,and
<br /> Meals on Wheels,Valley Humane Society distributes 120,000 dog/cat meals each year to support
<br /> our community's low-income residents Without a storage shed to maintain these food stores,we
<br /> may need to stop this longstanding community support program The City's support and assistance
