Please approve this development project to move forward to provide a first step to having an
opportunity for a community of special needs adults to live independent lives, socialize with friends and have a
community center to host activities and programs.
The developer, Mike Serpa, and the Sunflower Hill partner, SAHA Housing, have worked hard to make
changes since the Planning Commission meeting last summer with the number of units and the architecture of
the housing. Additionally many special needs families are hoping to purchase a home within the subdivision to
have access to the SFH campus and the amenities in case they are not chosen for one of the 30 individual units.
There are 700 individuals with special needs in Pleasanton who need affordable, long-term housing. This is a
growing need across the nation and every community needs to put in place similar type housing to enable our
special needs family members a safe, affordablenplace to live, socialize and work with peers and friends.
1
