I don't see these two things as being connected. We can have one without the other!
I am also concerned about the additional impact on roads and schools. Another nearby project, with over 300 units, will
be complete soon. I am referring to the apartments at the corner of Stanley and Bernal. We should wait and see what
the impact from that project will be, before developing the Irby property.
The most upsetting project on the horizon is the proposed new civic center. We are told that the present site, at 30
years old, is obsolete. I grew up on the east coast, where most city halls were built in the 19th century, and still in
use. Certainly, modifications and updates have occurred, but nobody would think of replacing the old structures. The
thought that 30 year old buildings must be torn down is laughable. The new civic center is to cost$ 200 million. That's
approximately$ 8,000 per family in Pleasanton. There will have to be additional taxes to pay for this. Even with 30 year
financing, such taxes would amount to$400 to$ 500 per family, for the next 30 years. Maybe it is worth that to some
people, but not to me. I hope that this issue is put to the voters before funds are committed so such an expensive
project.
1
