MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC <br /> 19 Commendations acknowledging the following <br /> • Play Bernal Fundraising Committee <br /> • Aldan Husejnovic, Winner of the Dog Park Naming Contest <br /> • Veterans Memorial Committee <br /> • Gable Heart Beats Foundation Donation <br /> Commendations were presented to the organizations and residents listed above on behalf of the <br /> Pleasanton City Council <br /> 20 Small Business Saturday Proclamation <br /> Councilmember Pentin read a Proclamation declaring November 26, 2016, as Small Business Saturday <br /> and encouraged residents to shop small businesses on that day <br /> Economic Development Director Pamela Ott thanked the City for recognizing small businesses and <br /> encouraged residents to support local businesses <br /> 21 Business Anniversary Recognition <br /> Economic Development Director Ott addressed the City's Business Anniversary Recognition program <br /> and reported there are 158 businesses being recognized Those celebrating fifteen years in business <br /> including Alexandria Flowers, BKF Engineers, Custom Exteriors, Decal Applicators, Hitachi High <br /> Technologies of America, JL Consulting, Dr John Ko DDS, The Law Office of Scott L Woodall, Merry <br /> Maids, Regina Schmidt, SM2 Strategic, Sunmaid Growers of California and Sleep Train Mattress <br /> Center, those celebrating twenty years in business including, Charles Katz Insurance Services, Five <br /> America, Marzel, Public Storage, Robert Half International, The Image Salon and Wunderlich-Malec <br /> Engineering, those celebrating twenty-five years in business including B & S Hacienda Auto Body <br /> Repair, Carpenters Training Committee, DeBernardi Development, Jazz and Taps Dance Studio, RAS <br /> Construction, Scott's Painting and The Cooper Companies, those celebrating thirty years in business <br /> including Charles Huff Architect, Chromagraphics, Jewelers Gallery, Randick, O'Dea & Tooliatos, LLP <br /> and Dr Steven Chew DDS, those celebrating forty years in business including, Alpha Business <br /> Services, Pool Time Construction, and Richert Lumber Company <br /> On behalf of the City Council, Mayor Thorne presented each with a commemorative plaque <br /> 22 Public Comment <br /> Sachim Bhayani reported a petition has been generated regarding the widening of Owens Drive and <br /> expressed concerns regarding increased traffic and safety, and felt the best solution is to widen the <br /> street to three lanes <br /> Traffic Engineer Mike Tassano reported the matter was considered by City Council in 2011 and that <br /> Owens Drive is a heavily-used, arterial roadway with a major destination being the BART Station He <br /> stated it was reduced to a single lane and staff has been working on a signal design Construction <br /> should begin in mid-December <br /> Julie Testa congratulated Mayor Thorne on his re-election as well as Councilmembers Pentin and <br /> Brown She addressed Owens Drive and stated it is counterintuitive to reduce the road to a single lane <br /> City Council Minutes Page 3 of 6 November 15, 2016 <br />
