Laurel Creek, there was a short segment (with grades less than 8%) where a speed
lump could be installed. Some residents that lived in this segment of Laurel Creek did
not support the installation of speed lumps; therefore, the committee did not recommend
the installation of speed lumps. The committee also considered the installation of
curbed medians and chicanes to reduce the width of the travel lanes, which could
reduce vechicle speeds. The committee and staff looked at serveral combinations of
medians and chicanes. Since it was unknown if the medians and chicanes would be
effective in reducing vehicle speed, the committee did not recommend the installation.
The committee recommends the installation of two electronic radar feedback signs as
shown in Attachment 1 to help reduce speeding along Laurel Creek.
The steering committee collaborated with City Staff on a traffic calming plan (see
Attachment 1) that includes the following elements:
1. Installation of a "No Right Turn" sign from eastbound Dublin Canyon Road to
southobund Laurel Creek Drive to reduce cut-through traffic along Laurel Creek
Drive.
2. Installation of radar feedback signs along Laurel Creek Drive to reduce vehicle
speed.
The estimated construction cost for this project is $20,500.
On August 31, 2016, staff conducted another neighborhood meeting to provide the
residents an opportunity to review and comment on the Laurel Creek Drive Traffic
Calming Plan. Staff received positive comments and support for the plan. It was
decided at this neighborhood meeting to circulate petitions to gain written support for
the plan. Members of the steering committee collected the required signatures for the
petition. The right turn restriction was supported by 70% of the neighborhood. The
property owners adjacent to the proposed electronic radar feedback signs also
supported the installation at the proposed locations.
Budget
The following is a summary of the estimated project costs:
Furnish and install two radar feedback signs $20,000
Furnish and install two "No Right Turn" signs and posts $500
Total Estimated Project Cost: $20,500
There are funds available in the City's Bi-annual Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program
(CIP No. 16555).
