Rebecca McLaughlin referenced her family-oriented ideas, spoke regarding making bicycling safe for <br /> families and commented on dangerous intersections in the City. She distributed a list of ideas to <br /> Councilmembers. <br /> Monir Brown spoke in support of the Master Plan and commented on specific issues needing to be <br /> prioritized. She suggested only the first part of the existing retaining wall needs to be removed. <br /> Mike Bloomstein congratulated Council and staff for the meeting and commented positively on the <br /> Master Plan. <br /> Ross Brown stated his goal is to ride his bicycle to school every day, spoke in support of the Master <br /> Plan and urged Council to help make specific intersections in the City, safer for cyclists. <br /> John Houston spoke in support of increased pedestrian and bicyclist safety. He thanked City staff and <br /> Council for facilitating the public having their say and highlighted elements of the plan that are key to <br /> him including protected bike lanes to and from City schools. <br /> Suvir Kheny reported on an area near his house that has no sidewalk, commented on the recent <br /> accident on Stanley Boulevard and spoke in support of safer bike paths in the City. <br /> Steve McGinnis, Pleasanton Peddlers and Member of the Bicycles and Trails Committee, urged <br /> Council to adopt the plan and implement it as quickly as possible. He addressed no-stress corridors, <br /> the three-foot rule and took inventory of attendees who raised their hands in response to the question <br /> of how many experienced encounters of one foot or less with cars. He commented on the increasing <br /> number of bicycle-related collisions and asked Council for protected buffered corridors. <br /> Fiona Thendean commented on a recent online course she took on bicycle safety, suggested <br /> education about bicycle safety should be provided in schools and talked specific intersections in the <br /> City that need to be improved. <br /> Shruthi Chandran commented on her love of bicycling but expressed concerns with safety in specific <br /> City intersections. She asked that the City enforce speed limits and implement its plan. <br /> Selena Kang talked about her experience in bicycling in the City and her involvement in five car <br /> accidents. She suggested increasing biker awareness, especially in residential areas. <br /> Kriti Jain, Member of the Bicycle, Pedestrian & Trails Committee spoke regarding safety in the Master <br /> Plan and the need for increased bike safety education in schools and the community. <br /> Mark Narciso commended the City for the Master Plan and spoke regarding the quality of roads as an <br /> important element in bicycle safety. <br /> Jim Strehlow commented on his experience bicycling in the City, suggested it would be better for <br /> people to ride on the wide sidewalks than in the roadway, stated he would prefer the bike boulevard <br /> going on Springdale, using signs to direct cyclists onto a bike boulevard and circular to get across <br /> Stanley Boulevard. <br /> Kristi Marlene stated she is excited about the plan and urged staff to go for funding, address Santa <br /> Rita and implement the plan as soon as possible. <br /> Councilmember Brown indicated she would like to see bike boulevards used by all ages and abilities. <br /> City Council Workshop and Page 3 of 5 September 13,2016 <br /> Special Meeting Minutes <br />
