Why would a private, non-commercial fraternal organization need a $200,000 commercial
kitchen? The obvious answer is that they intended to enter into large-scale commercial
operations. As a reference point, in the church that we attend, the total cost of equipment in
the kitchen is less than $2,000. Why, because we cook meals for our own members. We do not
rent the building to others for events that require cooking on a commercial level. Also, our
understanding is that this building permit expired before being approved by the City and that
the City is allowing the Masons to operate with an expired building permit.
