Pleasanton MaconWc Center <br />3370 Hopyard Road <br />Pleasanton, CA 94588 <br />TEL: (925) 462 -8424 <br />November 8, 2005 <br />City of PIeasanton <br />Planning and Community Development <br />200 Old Bernal Avenue <br />Pleasanton, CA 94566 -0802 <br />Attn: Ms. Jenny Soo <br />Re: Pleasanton Masonic Center Use - Variance <br />Dear Jenny: <br />The following details the proposed change in operation of the Pleasanton Masonic Center located <br />at 3370 Hopyard Road: <br />Objective: To expand present catering and rental activities which are predominantly for use by the <br />Masons Lodge and other masonic bodies to include outside catering and facility rental which <br />would also include preparation and serving of meals. <br />Present Actions: <br />I) Presently a Business License is in place allowing for food to be prepared at the facility only for <br />consumption by masonic organizations. No off -site selling of food, no signage or advertising. <br />2) Parking is shared with Saint Clare's Church and as such all activities are coordinated with the <br />church to ensure that there is no parking overflow issues. Parties meet each Tuesday to review <br />calendars and update where appropriate. No masonic functions are scheduled during peak church <br />services, i.e Christmas and Easter. <br />3) The PIeasanton Masonic Center has built a commercial kitchen which is regularly inspected by <br />the Alameda Board of Health. Funds were raised by borrowing from members. total expenditure <br />was in excess of $200,000.00. <br />4) The masonic lodge is a fraternal organization performing community service, i.e The Shrine <br />Hospitals. All non catering staff are non paid volunteers. All money generated from rental and <br />catering activities is used for reducing debt as well as future facility improvements, i.e landscaping <br />etc. <br />
