He addressed negative impacts of adding a large box <br /> retailer with fuel on existing businesses. He requested that Council support putting the measure on the <br /> November ballot and let the citizens of Pleasanton decide this issue. <br /> Josh Hanna reported collecting many signatures regarding a big box store on Johnson Drive. He <br /> thanked citizens for signing his petition. He commented on the importance of honor and dignity and <br /> respect for others' opinions and hoped for a peaceful election process. <br /> Carrie Cox thanked citizens who signed the Citizens for Planned Growth petition and urged Council to <br /> move forward so that the issue can be decided. She reported that the City failed to submit 756 <br /> signatures to the County Registrar and hoped that they will be submitted to the Registrar of Voters. <br /> Additionally, she urged Council to place the matter on the November ballot. <br /> Rose Mary Young and Ann King, 3441 Streamside Circle, #306, Pleasanton, spoke regarding the Feed <br /> Tri-valley Summer Food Drive. They addressed low food levels in the Tri-Valley and collecting food <br /> during the summer months. Additionally, they asked that the public "think locally and give locally". <br /> They provided details regarding the campaign which, starts in July, and asked the community to donate <br /> canned and dry foods between July 18th and July 31st. Barrels will be placed in different locations <br /> throughout the Tri-Valley for people to donate. <br /> Julie Testa commented on a previous discussion regarding a Demographers Report and expressed <br /> concerns regarding school overcrowding. She questioned the accuracy of the report in terms of future <br /> enrollment, noted that through the years declining enrollment has been projected, but never happened, <br /> and stated that enrollment will dramatically increase in the future. She addressed the need for <br /> additional schools and stated there needs to be a discussion in terms of the City's and the School <br /> District's priorities. <br /> Bill Wheeler, Owner of Black Tie Transportation, 7080 Commerce Drive, Pleasanton, addressed the <br /> citizen's petition regarding the big box store on Johnson Drive and the importance of allowing the <br /> citizens to decide the matter. He hoped that the City will heed the will of the people by acting positively <br /> and in a speedy manner and place the matter on the November ballot. <br /> PUBLIC HEARINGS AND OTHER MATTERS <br /> 13. Presentation by Stopwaste on proposed expansion of Reusable Bag Ordinance <br /> Merl Soil Senior Program Manager, Stopwaste, provided a presentation regarding a proposed <br /> expansion of the City's Reusable Bag Ordinance. She addressed the current and successful County- <br /> wide ordinance including information on the company, the Alameda County Waste Management <br /> Authority, background, stores affected by the existing ordinance, implementation of the current <br /> ordinance, outreach campaign to stores and the general public, reasons for the ordinance, <br /> effectiveness of the ordinance, potentially affected stores, expansion potential, rationale for expansion, <br /> directives, a summary of the ordinance amendments and the proposed timeframe for its adoption.
