Mike Pirozzoli opposed the location of the proposed new tennis courts and supported Alternative 1. He <br /> added that he would be against any alternative that would eliminate existing parking spaces. <br /> Bill Williams spoke in support of keeping the green, open field in the Tennis and Community Park. <br /> Skylar McCern talked about the importance of the green field to children and families. <br /> Ritika Gupta reported that she and her friends love the open field and that families use it for many <br /> activities. She asked that Council consider moving the tennis courts to another location, such as Del <br /> Prado Park. <br /> Joe Streng, Park and Recreation Commissioner, reported serving on the Master Plan Committee and <br /> addressed approval of the plan as well as setting priorities. He noted the need for more tennis courts in <br /> the City and reported that City staff and the Commission and Committee worked hard to ensure the <br /> community weighed in on this process. He reported visiting the site and stated his believe that the plan <br /> should be adjusted. He felt there is still a need to expand the facility, but that a common ground can be <br /> reached that doesn't involve the removal of the green field and Heritage trees. He suggested adding <br /> one tennis court at the Alternative 1 location or Alternative 2 with relocation of the volleyball courts, but <br /> opposed Alternative 3. Additionally, he indicated he would like to see the City remove the fence around <br /> the park, as soon as possible, and thanked the community for their input and engagement. <br /> Kaarin Graham spoke in support of the two new tennis courts and noted that the City has followed the <br /> appropriate process in reviewing and approving the project. She asked that Council respect the <br /> process and approve the project. <br /> Peter Lowe spoke regarding tennis as a growing sport and in support of the project but questioned the <br /> process. He suggested delaying the project until a better solution can be implemented and agreed with <br /> Alternative 3. <br /> Sankaran Chandramouli reported that the park is being used more as a community park than a tennis <br /> park. He spoke in support of maintaining the existing green, open space. <br /> Bud Veit, tennis player, reported that over the years, it has become increasingly difficult to find a place <br /> to play. He spoke in support of the project, as proposed. <br /> Daoming Cheng supported the new tennis courts, but not at the proposed location. He also opposed <br /> Alternative 1, noting that people currently play in the nearby basketball courts until late at night, which <br /> generates unwanted noise, requested maintaining the existing open space and suggested <br /> implementing Alternative 2 as a compromise. <br /> Staff suggested that Mr. Cheng call the Police Department when people are playing basketball beyond <br /> the park's closure. <br /> Mr. Cheng complained that there is no restroom near the basketball courts many relieve themselves in <br /> the bushes. Mayor Thorne asked staff to follow up with Mr. Cheng regarding the matter. <br /> Dan Rosier spoke about the importance of getting this project "right', addressed improvements in the <br /> notification process and noted the importance of considering alternatives. <br /> City Council Minutes Page 3 of 5 August 9,2016 <br />
