Recruitment for the Teen Poet Laureate position for the 2016/2017 school year began <br /> this past summer. As part of the process, the City established a Poet Laureate Selection <br /> Committee to review submitted materials, interview candidates, and recommend <br /> candidates for the Teen Poet Laureate position. <br /> The Selection Committee interviewed the eight (8) applicants for the Teen Poet <br /> Laureate position. Due to the high level of qualified applicants for the Teen Poet <br /> Laureate position and the desire to reach a broader range of youth through poetry, the <br /> screening committee recommended that the Civic Arts Commission appoint four (4) <br /> Teen Poet Laureates; two (2) students from Amador Valley High School and two (2) <br /> students from Foothill High School as indicated below: <br /> • Kyler Juarez and Nithya Swaminathan —Amador Valley High School <br /> • Kyle Mular and Irene Sha — Foothill High School <br /> On August 15, 2016, the Civic Arts Commission agreed with the Poet Laureate <br /> Selection Committee, and approved their recommendation to appoint Kyler Juarez and <br /> Nithya Swaminathan as the two (2) Teen Poet Laureates representing Amador High <br /> School and Kyle Mular and Irene Sha the (two) 2 Teen Poet Laureates representing <br /> Foothill High School for one (1) school year term beginning October 2016.
