4. I'm shocked to see a comparison of the fiscal impacts of the initiative vs. big-box project without factoring
the subsidies to be provided to Costco/Nearon for the big box component. That is, if we knew what they
were. This is very misleading to the public and in my mind an intentional political move. By the way, when
will the minutes from the April 12th CC/PC Workshop describing these subsidies become publicly
available? Or does the city think it would be too revealing and embarrassing to have these comments widely
dispersed?
5. Regarding General Plan consistently, as you are all well aware, you can pretty much pick and choose which
policies you want to cite when promoting a project. If you read my continents to the SEIR, you will have noted
the many policies, especially those focused on Sustainability, that this project violates. Again, this is a very
one-side argument.
6. Regarding Market Feasibility, I wish I had a dollar for every time I've heard a developer say that a project
will be infeasible unless they get EXACTLY what they want. I say baloney! If the project is infeasible without
the negative impacts of a big-box, then let's take a step back and reconsider what will actually be in the
community interest for this site. There are no guarantees for real estate speculators.
Unfortunately, government at all levels have ceased to represent the people and now routinely spin the facts to
support their own goals, those of their campaign contributors, or the powers that be (whether the Military-
Industrial Complex, Wall Street, or the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce). The JDEDZ has taken this to
another level with the city's "secret" negotiations with the developer over project subsidies, the Mayors conflict
of interest in promoting this project while owning Costco stock, the lack of transparency and obfuscation by
staff describing the planning process, and now this blatantly political "study" meant to misinform the public and
gain the outcome the city wants for the initiative. It's really shocking and disappointing to see how far the city
has gone down this path in the four short years since I have left the Council.
Matt Sullivan
Click here to report this email as spam.
•
2
