Annette Brecheisen
*object: FW: School Dist. Demographer Report
SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL
Provided to the City Council
Sent: Monday,June 06,2016 8:37 PM After Distribution of Packet
To: Mayor and City Council<citycouncil @cityofpleasantonca.gov>
Subject:School Dist. Demographer Report Date O/7//6%
Mayor and City Councilmembers:
I will be out of town for the council meeting Tues., June 7. I have great concerns regarding the
school district's demographer's report. I will list just 3 concerns:
1) Demographer report qualifies - schools are not needed ONLY "IF EXTREME ENROLLMENTS
ARE
ACCEPTABLE." They are not acceptable. We can do better.
2) Our General Plan states: Encourage school enrollment sizes that maintain neighborhood
character,
provide facilities for specialized programs, and promote more personalized education.
We must meet this standard.
Declining enrollment does not meet the "common sense" test. Below find apartment statistics:
Re. multi-family residential projects under construction:
1. Vintage Project(Stanley/Bernal): 345 apartments,occupancy expected September 2016
2. Safeway Project: 210 apartments+97 single-family units,occupancy of apartments expected Summer 2016
(single-family units are in process of completion/occupation)
3. Essex 1 (southeast corner of Owens/Willow): 255 apartments, occupancy expected Fall 2016
4. Essex 2 (northern corner of Gibraltar/Hacienda): 251 units, occupancy expected early 2017
Please request additional information from the school district regarding St Aton Apartments(168 units), 5729 W. Los
Positas. There are fully occupied
and can serve as a base for number of students served.
Thank you for considering this information,
Kay Ayala
1
