14.3 Extended Medical Leave <br /> Any regular or probationary employee who is temporarily disabled from work due to a <br /> medical condition may, upon written request to the Department Head and the designated <br /> Director of Human Resources and Labor Relations, be granted by <br /> the City Manager, a leave of absence without pay for a period not to exceed six (6) <br /> months beyond the exhaustion of any accrued sick leave. <br /> The term medical disability includes all temporary medical disabilities including <br /> pregnancy, childbirth and associated medical conditions. <br /> Such request for medical leave will be considered only upon provision of a physician's <br /> statement attesting to said disability. <br /> During extended medical leave, an employee shall not accrue vacation or sick leave <br /> benefits or be eligible for holidays, nor shall such time be considered as service time. <br /> Any employee returning from medical leave shall be required to provide a physician's <br /> release to return to duty. <br /> 14.4 Jury Leave <br /> Every employee of the City who is called or required to serve as a juror shall be entitled <br /> to leave from his/her duties with the City during the period of such service or while <br /> necessarily being present in court as a result of such call. The employee shall be paid the <br /> difference between his/her full salary and any payment received by him/her, except travel <br /> pay, for such duty. <br /> 14.5 Leaves Resulting from Subpoena <br /> Leave of absence with pay shall be granted to a person while going to and from court and <br /> answering a subpoena as a witness. The employee shall be paid the difference between <br /> his/her full salary and any payment received by him/her, except travel pay, for such duty. <br /> 14.6 Military Leave <br /> Military leave shall be granted in accordance with the provisions of the City of <br /> Pleasanton Military Leave Policy and in compliance with state and federal law. <br /> 14.7 Failure to Return from Leave <br /> Failure on the part of the employee on leave to report to duty promptly upon its <br /> expiration or within a reasonable time after its expiration shall be cause for discipline. <br /> -23 - <br />
