BACKGROUND
At its September 2, 2014 meeting, the City Council approved the Bernal Avenue and I-
680 landscape and gateway monument improvement project. City Council also
approved the installation of the gateway monument sign and resolution of support for
the design, construction, maintenance, and funding for the project.
At its July 21, 2015 meeting, City Council approved the plans and specifications and
awarded the construction contract for the Bernal Avenue and 1-680 Landscape
Improvement Project. The project is currently under construction and is nearly complete.
DISCUSSION
The gateway monument and landscape features at Bernal Avenue and 1-680 will
significantly beautify the entrance into the City and will provide an attractive introduction
and welcome to motorists traveling along 1-680. The gateway monument, landscape,
hardscape and irrigation features are above the threshold that Caltrans would maintain.
Therefore, the City will have to maintain these improvements. These improvements are
being installed under a Caltrans encroachment permit with the requirement that the City
will enter into a gateway monument and landscaping agreement with the State.
Submitted by: Fisca Review: Approved by:
Gerry Beaudin Tina Olson Nelson Fialho
Director of Director of Finance City Manager
Community Development
Attachments:
1.
