None.
MATTERS BEFORE THE COMMISSION
4. Recommendation to Allocate Community Grant Funds for Fiscal Year 2016/2017
Ms. Crose reviewed with Commissioners the process they should consider for recommending
funding allocations for the Community Grant Funds for Fiscal Year 2016/2017.
Commissioners were informed that a total of $45,011.81 was allocated in the FY 2016/17
Operating Budget for the Civic Arts category of the Community Grant Program, with a total of
nine (9) applications being received from six (6) agencies requesting funding in the amount of
$55,695.00. Ms. Crose advised that staff had reviewed all nine applications using the same
criteria used by Commissioners in Zoomgrants with the added criteria of checking for
completeness and technical merit.
Ms. Crose asked Commissioners to review and discuss the community grant applications,
discuss funding recommendations and make any needed modifications, and then approve the
funding recommendations to be forwarded to City Council for their final review.
Commissioner Jellison indicated that in reviewing the applications in Zoomgrants she had
voted against two because she felt they had not followed the required rules and regulations.
Commissioner Orenberg noted that he too had not voted for two of the applications.
Representatives from Pleasanton Community Band and Livermore Valley Opera came forward
and apologized for not having met all of the required funding application requirements, and
indicated they understood their importance, and stated that changes have been made in their
organizations to eliminate this problem in the future. They provided information about their
programs and asked the Commission to consider their applications when making funding
recommendations.
Mr. Patrick advised that he had received emails from both Livermore Valley Opera and
Pleasanton Community Band expressing their regret at not attending any of the mandatory
grant meetings.
Commissioner Steenman commented on his funding recommendation for Livermore Valley
Opera and his concern that the agency's request is for a program that has received funding for
a number of years, and was not a new program. Commissioner Orenberg stated that he felt it
was a good organization with a good board that puts a good amount of planning into the
program.
Cheza Nami Foundation INC (Taste of Africa — Festival), Catherine Ndunqu -Case — provided
information about the agency's request for funding to provide a 'Taste of Africa — Festival' in
Pleasanton in the fall of 2016, with a main stage performance being held at the Firehouse Arts
Center. She advised that several musical and dance activities will be held outdoors along with
Civic Arts Commission Minutes
March 7, 2016
Page 2
