PUBLIC COMMENTS: Johnson Drive Economic Development Zone
Over the past couple of years, this Council has pursued a path supporting developers and the Chamber
of Commerce but one at odds with the desires of the public. The 2500 unit East Side proposal which you
had to drop due to overwhelming public opposition, Lund Ranch II where you violated Measure PP and
are now facing a voter referendum, and now this project. The public has lost faith that the Council will
represent their best interests and have therefore taken a proactive approach of an initiative measure to
stop the big-box component of this project. While it's true that you have the power to approve this
while ignoring the will of the people, the people will hold the ultimate power come November when
many of you will be up for reelection.
Thank you.
Matt Sullivan
From:James Brice
Date: Mon, Apr 11, 2016 at 9:31 AM
To: Herb Ritter
Herb,
I would like to express my strong support for the proposed economic zone on Johnson Drive in
Pleasanton. A Costco would add to Pleasanton's tax base. It would reduce the city's carbon imprint by
reducing the length of the drive that many Pleasanton residents must now take to patronize Costco
stores in Livermore and San Ramon. It would generate many new jobs, perhaps proving life-changing
economic opportunities for the homeless families that I hear are now living under our bridges and
beside our arroyos. Its location near the 1580/1680 is good for traffic flow with only minimal necessary
alterations to the roadway to accommodate the added vehicular traffic on Stoneridge Drive and Johnson
Drive. And,the opposition by local business owners is not supportable by the facts. I understand the
opposition is led by Bill Wheeler, CEO of Black Tie Transportation, a large commercial business near the
proposed industrial zone. If Mr. Wheeler is so opposed to Costco, why does he refer to Johnson Drive as
"Commercial Drive" on Black Tie's website? If he is concerned about traffic, why doesn't he provide an
adequate off-road parking facility for his employees instead of forcing them to park on Johnson Drive,
thereby creating a traffic hazard and a pedestrian hazard seeing there is no crosswalk anywhere near
where his employees must cross the road. Thanks for inviting my input. Jim.
James Brice
December 2015—April 2016(3) 2
