PUBLIC COMMENTS: Johnson Drive Economic Development Zone
SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL,
From: Steve Wallace Provided to the City Council
Sent: Friday,January 08, 2016 11:17 AM After Distribution of Packet
To: Mayor and City Council /
Subject: PLEASE -- NO COST
CO Date 1 /
Greetings,
•
First off, thank you for the hard work you put into making Pleasanton a great place to live! I am
concerned over the continued pursute of high density housing withing the city, but will save this for
another email.
The primary reason for me wrting you today is the news of a Costco to take the place of the lot of
property previously occupied by Clorox. I am very concerned with this news. I work right down the road
from this proposed site and pass this location daily.
• The primary access routes (exits at Stoneridge/680 and Hopyard/580) are not designed to handle
the additional traffic that this new business will bring. The access from Stoneridge is already
impacted due to Stoneridge mall. Additionally„the left hand turn lane that will be used to exit
from Stoneridge drive (eastbound) to Johnson Drive is not large enough to prevent traffic
disruptions on Stoneridge drive (currently, there are two left hand turn lanes, but the short right
hand merge lane on Johnson makes use of the right left-hand turn lane relatively useless). The
traffic flow from the 580/Hopyard area is even more difficult (no dedicated right hand turn from
Hopyard onto Owens, In-n-out drive-through already spilling out onto Johnson Dr, and a stop
sign at the Ownes/Johnson intersection).
• Close proximity to Costco already exists-- Costco has two stores within 12 miles of the proposed
site. I cannot imagine residents of Pleasanton require an additional Costco option.
Please accept this message from a concerned constituent. I am not anti-growth and believe growth is a
natural part of a cities progress. However, I would like to see more infastructure in place (traffic flow
solutions) prior to the approval of this new store.
Thanks for you time!
Steve Wallace
December 2015—April 2016(2) 2
