BACKGROUND
Addressing the need for the two additional courts is a listed priority in the current City
Council Work Plan. Funds were budgeted in the Capital Improvement Program budget
to begin work on this priority - Pleasanton Tennis and Community Park - Two Additional
Courts, CIP No. 147031.
In January 2016 an RFQ was advertised seeking a landscape architectural firm qualified
to design and prepare biddable construction documents for the two additional lighted
courts at the Tennis and Community Park, which is located on the southwest side of the
intersection of Hopyard and Valley. In response to the RFQ, four landscape architectural
firms (along with their assembled subconsultant teams) submitted their Statement of
Qualifications (SOQs).
DISCUSSION
On February 24, 2016, the consultant selection committee interviewed the two firms and
chose CALA as the most qualified to assist the City with the project. CALA has been
involved in the design and construction or renovation of more than a dozen tennis courts,
and was also the firm that designed the recently completed tennis courts at Owens Plaza
Park as part of the Iron Horse Trail improvements. CALA has been in business in the
Bay Area for more than 40 years and has a very well qualified and experienced electrical
engineering firm on their team, Zeiger Engineers, to design the lighting. The selection
committee believes this knowledge will help ensure a successful project that meets the
construction deadlines that the City has set.
Under the terms of the negotiated scope of work and fee, CALA will evaluate the
topographic survey provided by the City, review all available as-built records, and verify
them with the field conditions. They will analyze how to best fit the proposed courts with
the existing grades and improvements and how to connect to the electrical system. Their
final design will also incorporate City standards as well as stormwater and water efficient
irrigation requirements. With this information they will prepare design development
drawings and estimates to procure City and concessionaire feedback. Upon feedback
they will fold comments into construction documents and bid documents.
Submitted by: Fisca Review: Approve by:
71,A\
Stephen ' patrick Tina Olson Nelson Fialho
Director of Engineering Director of Finance City Manager
Attachments:
1.
