BACKGROUND
This past November (2015) the system that supplies heat and air conditioning to the
Pleasanton Senior Center's classrooms and lobby experienced a catastrophic failure,
eliminating the ability to adjust the system to regulate the facility's temperature. To
mitigate extreme discomfort for the patrons, the City's As-Needed Contractor, ACCO
Engineering Systems (ACCO) was able to switch the system to heat, however, due to
the failing system; staff was unable to control the temperature in the facility.
ACCO Engineering Systems performed an assessment of the system and determined
that the valve boxes that control the air flow and temperature of the facility required
retrofitting and re-programming. Due to the time of year and anticipated temperature,
emergency repair work was authorized by the City Manager and the system repairs are
scheduled to be completed in February, allowing for regulated heat and air conditioning
throughout the facility.
DISCUSSION
ACCO is the City's current maintenance service and repair As-Needed Contractor for
the City's HVAC systems and in September of 2014, made similar repairs to the Senior
Center's system. Therefore, ACCO was authorized to perform the emergency repair
work, per the City's Purchasing Policy, Emergency Purchases and Exemptions to
Standard Practices.
Submitted by: Fiscal Review: Approv by:
/1,,F
Kathleen urchak Tina Olson Nelson Fialho
Director of Operations and Director of Finance City Manager
Water Utilities
Attachment:
1.
