Presentation of a Commendation to Cameron Huber for her work on behalf of Wreaths Across
Pleasanton
Councilmember Pentin invited Cameron Huber to be recognized and David Hamm to the podium
to explain about the Wreaths Across Pleasanton program supporting the military.
12. Public Comment
Vice Mayor Narum opened public comments.
Allen Roberts wanted to clear up various misconceptions regarding the Lund Ranch referendum.
It was reported in newspapers that Mayor Thorne stated the issue was just about traffic between
two neighborhoods. He contradicted this, stating that except for one, all original supporters of
Measure PP are supporting the referendum, and also named supporters of the current
referendum. He stated "Kay" feels beholden to Ventana, even lending her name to the developer,
and presenting the choice as between "more traffic" or Measure PP. The proponents of the
referendum do not want more traffic, they want harmony in both neighborhoods and Measure PP
adhered to.
Bruce Fiedler expressed support for the Council confirming a vote to promote a healthy smoke-
free environment downtown and working on language to extend a smoke-free environment to
multi-family housing residents throughout Pleasanton. He mentioned HUD policies that will apply
to the entire country and that today is last day for comments on the HUD matter. In addition,
privately owned single family residences which receive federal subsidies must also follow smoke-
free guidelines. Citywide ordinances have been adopted in other areas with good effect and a
minimum amount of fuss. He noted that 88% of adults in the county do not smoke. In closing, he
stated that low-income residents who smoke who are not able to move also impact low-income
non-smoking residents who cannot afford to move.
Kevin Comerford, representing "Service Champions," requested that Council reconsider the idea
of the Johnson Drive economic development zoning which would allow Costco to come into town.
City Council Minutes Page 2 of 6 January 19,2016
