BACKGROUND
Pleasanton resident Nancy Allen approached the City last month proposing to gift the
City $7,000 for the construction of a shade structure at the Bernal Dog Park. The shade
structure would provide a much needed shade area for visitors and dogs while newly
planted trees grow. The gift will be provided in the form of common stock later this
month. Since the City cannot hold the investment as part of its portfolio, City staff would
need to sell the holdings and convert to cash. The off-leash dog park at the Bernal
Property is a City Council priority and it will partially satisfy the recommendations of the
Parks and Recreation Master Plan to add two off-leash dog areas/parks. The final
conceptual design by Tanaka Design Group was approved in January 2015 and funding
approved in June 2015 by the City Council through the adoption of the 2015-16 through
2018-19 Capital Improvement Program. The project will be bid in summer 2016, at
which time the City will have final cost estimates for the shade structure.
DISCUSSION
Upon acceptance by the City Council of this generous gift from Nancy Allen, the City will
deposit the funds in the CIP project to pay for the costs associated with the shade
structure.
Submitted by: Approved by:
.j 0
Tina Olson Nelson Fialho
Director of Finance City Manager
