DISCUSSION
The Housing Authority of the County of Alameda (HACA) Housing Commission is
comprised of representatives appointed by Alameda County jurisdictions (all cities in
Alameda County with the exceptions of Livermore, Alameda and Oakland), as well as
one tenant representative and one senior tenant representative.
The City of Pleasanton's current representative to the HACA Commission, Christine
Steiner, was originally appointed to the position in January 2008. Ms. Steiner served
two consecutive four-year terms. Her second four-year term will expire on
December 31, 2015.
The City Clerk's office recently solicited applications to fill a range of different
commission and committee assignments, including the HACA Commission
representative. No applications for the HACA position were received. Ms. Steiner has
agreed to continue in the position for another term with City Council approval.
As a long-time Pleasanton resident, Ms. Steiner has represented the City well, attending
not only HACA Commission meetings but the numerous other meetings held by various
committees established by the Commission. In addition, Ms. Steiner has served in the
past as the Commission's Chair and is very familiar with housing issues both locally and
regionally.
While length of service on the Commission is not limited by Alameda County, the City
Council has generally followed the City's internal eight-year limitation that governs
service on the City of Pleasanton's standing commissions and committees. As noted
above, the City has been unsuccessful in attracting new applicants for this position.
Should the Council vote to ratify Ms. Steiner's nomination to a third four-year term
(through December 31, 2019), a letter of nomination would be sent to the Alameda
County Board of Supervisors for its final approval and appointment.
Submitted by: Approved by:iu
i,. p,_Brian Dolan Nelson Fialho
Assistant City Manager City Manager
