THE CITY OF 2
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
pLEzASANTONo
November 17, 2015
City Manager
TITLE: APPROVAL AND RATIFICATION OF PROPOSED PAY SCHEDULE
AND AMENDMENTS TO THE MANAGEMENT AND CONFIDENTIAL
EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE COMPENSATION PLAN
SUMMARY
Compensation for management and confidential employees is discussed with Council
each fiscal year. As management and confidential employees are not covered under a
collective bargaining agreement, recommendations for adjustments are brought to
Council for consideration. The California Code of Regulations provision implementing
the California Public Employees' Retirement Law requires adoption by a member
agency's governing body of pay schedules of its employees. City Council approval of
the pay schedules for this particular group plus ratification of amendments to the
Management Compensation Plan providing City contributions into a deferred
compensation plan and employee contributions toward medical premiums, are being
recommended by staff.
RECOMMENDATION
Adopt a resolution approving a 3% wage increase to the Management and Confidential
control points and ratifying amendments of the provisions of the Management
Compensation Plan to include City contributions of .5% of base wages into a deferred
compensation plan and a minimum employee contribution of $25 per month toward
employee medical premiums.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
The financial impact as a result of the implementation of the recommended 3% increase
is a cost of approximately $397,206; the recommended City contributions to deferred
compensation is a cost of approximately $49,082; and the savings from the employee
contributions to medical premiums is approximately $16,500 to the City budget over one
year.
