Subject: FW: Letter to City Council and Planning Commissioners
Attachments: City Council Agenda Report for Ponderosa Horr s,U• lEgEN HAIN#RitRIAL
9 R \!
Provided to the City Council
From: Kelly Cousins [mailto:] After Distribution of Packet
Sent: Monday, October 05, 2015 4:36 PM
To: Mayor and City Council; Maria Hoey Date OCT Q 5 MO
Subject: Letter to City Council and Planning Commissioners
Thank you for passing this letter on to the Council and Planning Commissioners.
Attention: Mayor Thorne,Council Members Brown,Narum, Pentin and Olson.
Regarding: Oct 6, 2015 City Council Agenda Item 20. Public Hearing for the Amendment to the General Plan for
Rezoning Centerpointe Church Property by Ponderosa
Honorable Members of the Council:
It has come to my attention the small remaining area of Public and Institutional (P&I)zoning(6.22 acres)near Busch
and Valley, is under your consideration for further reduction to just under two acres should the City Council approve this
modification to the General Plan. This proposed change from P&I to residential zoning may seem small in the minds of
few who stand to profit from the potential rezoning and sale of this property. However, in the minds of the majority of our
residents, this is just more of the same "for profit" manipulations and further erosion of our effort as a community to
preserve and protest what we value most about Pleasanton. My question to you as leaders of Pleasanton, a town that ranks
as one of the best communities in which to live thanks to careful consideration of balance, is: "How do we get to this level
of resident satisfaction and confidence in our City and its leaders by ignoring the#1 goal of our General Plan which is to
provide sufficient public facilities(such as schools, churches and Day Care facilities)to serve our existing and future
development while preserving and enhancing the quality of life of our town?" How seriously do you take the recent City
survey results that show among residents, too much growth and development is the highest concern along with drought
and water issues? How is changing this zoning of 4.23 acres for residential housing going to improve our water
conservation efforts, our ability as a City to provide adequate zoning for land to build neighborhood schools or places of
worship or potential day care facilities for our growing community? How is this approval "fair"to the other churches or
non-profit facilities who are seeking the similar advantage that Centerpointe Church received for their parishioners when
it was able to buy their current property well below market value because of the P&I Zoning which was part of
a negotiated land use agreement? Many people see this rezoning of church property as inappropriate "land speculation"
and just the beginning of other church property under threat of conversion to residential in Pleasanton. Many of us have
given much time and effort over the years towards careful consideration of development projects, land use decisions and
how to provide more than just a "vision" of a livable community. Our community deserves and desires critical and
unbiased study of any changes of even a small portion of what we have obtained as P& I zoning. I encourage your vote
on Tuesday to reflect the same concerns many others who have come to speak before you at community meetings or
voiced their opinions on community surveys. Please vote "No"to rezoning our limited public facilities resources for
unnecessary residential development.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Kelly Cousins
President,Pleasanton Voters
Click here to report this email as spam.
t
