The application <br /> seeks approval to:(1)construct an approximately 297 square-foot single-story addition with an open- <br /> sided second-floor balcony on the rear of the residence;(2)construct an approximately 558 square- <br /> foot second-floor addition above the garage on the east side of the residence; (3) install five new <br /> dormer windows; (4) install a new roof over the front porch; and (5) install new second-floor <br /> windows and doors, collectively referred to as"the Remodel". <br /> In accordance with Pleasanton Municipal Code 18.144.020 and 18.144.050,this is an appeal of the <br /> Planning Commission's decision of May 27, 2015 relative to that application. The decision was <br /> provided to the Applicants in the form of a letter from the City of Pleasanton, Community <br /> Development Department,dated June 4, 2015 and postmarked 6/9/2015("the Letter"). A copy is <br /> attached for your easy reference. Applicants contend that,for the reasons set forth below,there was <br /> an error and abuse of discretion by the Planning Commission and that the Planning Commission's <br /> decision is not supported by the evidence in the record. <br /> As of this writing, an official transcript of the Planning Commission hearing has not been made <br /> available to the Applicants. The Applicants have, however, listened to a partial recording of the <br /> proceedings. There are certain significant factual inconsistencies between those proceedings and <br /> what is stated in the Letter. <br /> The Letter states: "[title Commission approved your appeal,thereby overturning the portion of the <br /> Zoning Administrator's approval relating to the second-floor balcony..."This is factually incorrect. <br /> According to the Applicants' personal transcription of the recording of the Planning Commission <br />
