CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br /> ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br /> ORDINANCE NO. 762 <br /> <br /> AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 5-8.47, ARTICLE 3 <br /> (REQUIREMENTS OF PERMITTEE), CHAPTER VIII (ENCROACH- <br /> MENTS) ~ TITLE V (VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC, STREETS AND <br /> HIGHWAYS) OF THE ORDINANCE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br /> PLEASANTON RELATING TO ~AILBOXES AND ADOPTING THE <br /> SAME AS AN URGENCY ORDINANCE. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Pleasanton presently prohibits the <br />erection of curbside mailboxes; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the United States Postal Service has amended its <br />regulations prohibiting portal to portal delivery and permitting <br />mail delivery in new residential subdivisions at curbside mail- <br />boxes~ and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, approximately 100 residences have been denied <br /> <br />mail service due to the above conflict; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council, though opposing and continuing <br /> <br />to oppose the curbside mailbox regulation is desirous of aiding <br />its citizens. <br /> <br /> NOW~ THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Pleasanton <br />does ordain as follows: <br /> <br /> Section 1. Section 5-8.47 (Mailboxes), Article 3 (Require- <br />ments of Permittee), Chapter VIII (Encroachments), Title V <br /> <br />(Vehicles and Traffic, Streets and Highways) of the Ordinance <br />Code of the City of Pleasanton is amended in its entirety to <br />read as follows: <br /> <br /> Section 5-8.47 Mailboxes. Individualized mailboxes <br /> required to be located at or near the curb in order <br /> to conform to the requirements of the United States <br /> Postal Service shall be permitted within the public <br /> right-of-way, provided said mailboxes comply with a <br /> Resolu~sion Es~sablishing Standards for Mailboxes. <br /> Copies of the resolution, or amendments thereto, <br /> are available in the City Clerk's office. <br /> <br /> Section 2. This ordinance is adopted as an urgency <br /> <br />ordinance and shall become effective immediately upon its <br /> <br /> <br />
