CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> COUNTY OF ALAMEDA <br /> STATE OF CALIFORNIA <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 74-168 <br /> A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE PASSAGE OF HR-7720 PROHIBITING <br /> THE UNITED STATES POST OFFICE DEPARTMENT FROM REQUIRING <br /> THE INSTALLATION OF MAILBOXES AT THE CURB LINE OF RESIDEN- <br /> TIAL PROPERTY WHERE A LOCALITY HAS PROHIBITED SUCH <br /> INSTALLATION <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council has recently been advised that the <br /> Postal Department is reviewing its policy with respect <br /> to door-to-door delivery of mail in residential areas as <br /> opposed to curbside delivery; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council had previously adopted, in May of 1966, <br /> Ordinances Nos. 453 and 454 , prohibiting construction of <br /> mail boxes for delivery of mail within the public side- <br /> walk and street area of the City; and <br /> WHEREAS , House of Representatives Bill HR-7720, which would provide <br /> that the United States Postal Service may not require the <br /> installation of mailboxes at the curb line of residential <br /> property in any locality if the governing authority of <br /> such locality prohibits such installation, is being con- <br /> sidered by the House of Representatives; and <br /> WHEREAS , the City 'Council, at their meeting of August 26 , 1974 , <br /> reviewed the proposed bill and wishes to support its <br /> passage; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON DOES <br /> RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: <br /> Section 1. The City Council hereby expresses its support of House <br /> of Representatives Bill HR-7720 and the intent of said <br /> bill to prohibit curbside mailboxes in localities which <br /> o . <br /> have -.pe: L fically prohibited such installation. <br /> Sect?-on 2. The City Council recommends that the United States <br /> House of Representatives and the Senate pass the proposed <br /> bill HR-7920 . <br />
