J . y . <br /> MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING <br /> Between <br /> CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> and <br /> PLEASANTON FIREFIGHTERS <br /> I.A.F.F. LOCAL 1974 <br /> This Memorandum of Understanding is entered into pursuant to the provisions <br /> of Sections 3500-3510 of the Government Code of the State of California. <br /> The Employee Relations Officer (City Manager) is the representative of the <br /> City of Pleasanton in employer-employee relations matters and the Joint Powers <br /> Agency has been designated representative for the purposes of meeting and con- <br /> ferring. <br /> Pleasanton Firefighters I.A.F.F. Local 1974 is the formally recognized <br /> employee organization for the Firefighter Employees Unit. <br /> The parties have net and conferred in good faith regarding wages, hours <br /> and other terms and conditions of employment for the employees in said repre- <br /> sentation unit, and have freely exchanged information, opinions and proposals <br /> and have endeavored to reach agreement on all matters relating to the employ- <br /> ment conditions and employer-employee relations of such employees. <br /> This Memorandum of Understanding shall be presented to the Pleasanton <br /> City Council as the joint recommendation of the undersigned parties for sal- <br /> ary and employee benefit adjustments for the period commencing July 1, 1974, <br /> and ending July 31, 1975. <br /> The wages, hours and conditions of employment shall be as follows: <br /> 1. Effective September 1, 1974, the City shall make the necessary con- <br /> tributions on behalf of each eligible employee for employee coverage <br /> and an amount not to exceed Nineteen Dollars ($19.00) per month for <br /> dependent coverage for the purpose of providing medical coverage <br /> under either the existing Blue Cross or Kaiser Health Plan. <br /> 2. The salary ranges of each classification shall be increased effective <br /> September 1, 1974, to provide monthly salary ranges as follows: <br /> Classification Effective September 1, 1974 <br /> Fireman $1018 - $1239 <br /> Lieutenant $1150 - $139a <br /> 3. The Fair Labor Standards Act (Federal Wage and Hour Law) has recently <br /> been amended to extend to certain categories of public employees, and <br /> it is anticipated that the amendments may require changes in certain <br /> policies and practices currently in effect. If due to the operation <br /> of the Fair Labor Standards Act it is determined by the City Attorney <br /> that (1) certain hours are to be considered time worked, which under <br /> the present policy and practice of the City prior to the operation of <br /> the Fair Labor Standards Act were not considered time worked and for <br /> which, accordingly, no compensation was paid, and/or (2) overtime pay- <br /> ments are required where under the present policy and practice of the <br /> City prior to the operation of the Fair Labor Standards Act payment <br /> was made at the straight-time rate, the City shall have the option of <br /> cancelling the specific provision of the rules, regulations, ordinance, <br /> or memorandum of understanding involved, and if the City exercises such <br /> option, said provision shall be null and void and of no further force <br /> and effect. <br /> EXHIBITA <br />
