BACKGROUND
On December 6, 2011 at its regular meeting, City Council approved the public art piece,
"On the Count of Three" by artist Jane Dedecker, as part of the Harrington Public Art
Acquisition Plan - Phase II. Through the Harrington Art Partnership, Nancy and Gary
Harrington have purchased the bronze sculpture "On the Count of Three'; and have
graciously donated it to the City's public art collection.
DISCUSSION
Originally suggested by the Harringtons, the proposed site for the permanent location of
"On the Count of Three"; at the Pleasanton Library has great appeal due to its visibility
and its 'approachability' by patrons and pedestrians alike.
On April 10, 2015, the location for "On the Count of Three" was reviewed by both the
Public Art Selection Subcommittee, as well as representatives from the Library
Commission. With unanimous approval, both PASS members and the Library
Commissioners supported the installation of "On the Count of Three" at the Pleasanton
Library located at 400 Old Bernal Avenue.
At its regular meeting on May 4, 2015, the Civic Arts Commission reviewed the piece
and the proposed location. The Commission asked detailed questions about the
location and visibility. The Commission liked the family concept of the piece and felt it
would have a connection to the Library. They unanimously agreed to recommend
placement of this piece at the Pleasanton Library.
Submitted by: Fiscal view: Approve by:
Susan Andrade-Wax Tina Olson Nelson Fialho
Community Services Director Director of Finance City Manager
Attachments:
1.
