Regardless, the Mayor and Council have asked that the matter be returned to the City Council for a
comprehensive update and to determine whether the planning process should be stopped. This matter has been
set for the May 19th City Council Meeting.
Again, thank you for writing and taking the time to be informed about our community. I hope you find this
information useful. Please let us know if you need additional clarification about the timeline or process.
Sincerely,
Nelson Fialho
City Manager
From: Martina Harrison []
Sent: Saturday, May 16, 2015 12:07 PM
To: mhoeCalcitvofpleasantonca.ciov; Mayor and City Council; PTown Weekly #2
Subject: Fwd: Urban Sprawl - we need time
To whom it may concern
In my quest to research possibilities which were planned and build with sustainability in mind, I came across
this quote:
"What holds people together long enough to discover their power as citizens is their common inhabiting of a single place."
—Daniel Kemmis
At one of the meetings I attended the planning commission asked for suggestions, rather than mere criticism.
Pleasanton is more than a place to live, it is a community to many of its inhabitants and the larger we will get
the more difficult it will become to sustain that. Locals who attended the City Council meeting cited that point
for being a primary reason in moving here.
We risk losing our sense of community
when we don't take the time to work towards a sustainable future.
What I see planned does not create community, but burdens our existing town.
Please consider this an opportunity to become a city with a vision.
Let us consider a community where the residents not only have access to grey water but also have gardens that
are drought resistent,
where shopping and schools are within walking range, where biking is possible and safe. If more people are to
move here, we need to make increased public transportation a contingency: another ACE train station, BART
access, working and accessible bus system.
Help new residents take ownership of their surroundings.
Pleasanton can be better; these things have been done in other areas of the U.S., and abroad.
We need more time to adjust to the new requirements of climate and population. I suggest limiting new
developments until we are sure of how our community can survive the drought and grow in a sustainable way
that is healthy for all.
Thank you for your time
Martina Harrison
Click here to report this email as spam.
2
