Again, thank you for writing and taking the time to be informed about our community. I hope you find this
information useful. Please let us know if you need additional clarification about the timeline or process.
Sincerely,
Nelson Fialho
City Manager
From: Bridget Kovacs
Sent:Tuesday, May 19, 2015 9:00 AM
To: Mayor and City Council
Subject Opposition to the East Side Plan
Dear City Council-
My name is Bridget Kovacs, and I am a Pleasanton resident. We moved to Pleasanton in November 2012,
shortly after finding out that my husband and I were expecting our first child. We love Pleasanton- its beautiful
downtown, the holiday parades, and the strong sense of community.
Just a little over a month ago, my husband and I made the biggest investments of our lives to date - we
purchased our first home.. Although we always loved Pleasanton, what really made us decide to invest in
Pleasanton was the excellent reputation of the schools. However, I had a moment of panic when I read about the
East Side Plan. Did we just make a huge financial mistake? I'm really concerned about how 1900 new homes
will impact the Pleasanton schools. It's not making sense to me. I'm opening to trying to understand how the
East Side Plan makes sense and what is being done to make sure the schools aren't overcrowded.
However, frankly, that's not my only issue with the East Side Plan. Last year, my husband and I were constantly
trying to conserve water. We were in a new rental home though and the prior tenants must not have had kids -
even after letting our lawn turn yellow- we couldn't make the 25%reduction from the prior tenant's use. We
had too many bottles to wash, and to many loads of laundry. But, when I hear that 1900 new housing units can
be built- I'm frustrated. Is their really enough water? Why am I worried about taking a shower or running the
dishwasher if we can accommodate that many more housing units? I think the reality is I do need to be
concerned about water use -because their isn't enough- and their certainly isn't enough for more housing units.
I'm not thrilled about the idea of more traffic issues either. My husband commutes to Santa Clara. It can take 15
minutes just from getting off the interstate to get our home. What will that go to with the added traffic? How
much longer will my daughter have to wait to see her dad each night?
It is my opinion that the East Side Plan should be paused for the time being. I'm open to hearing the reasons it
makes sense to go forward. i.e if we don't develop the land now- in 2023 the state will force us to be 3800
housing units there instead of 1900? But right now, I haven't heard any compelling arguments to continue
with the plan.
Kindly,
Bridget Kovacs
Click here to report this email as spam.
2
