ORDINANCE NO. 2113 <br /> AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON ADDING <br /> A NEW CHAPTER 18.103 (BEEKEEPING) TO THE MUNICIPAL CODE TO • <br /> ESTABLISH A PERMIT PROCESS AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS FOR <br /> BEEKEEPING ON LAND IN THE A (AGRICULTURAL) ZONING DISTRICT; FOR <br /> PROPERTIES WITH DETACHED SINGLE FAMILY HOMES LOCATED IN THE R-1 <br /> (ONE-FAMILY RESIDENTIAL) ZONING DISTRICT, RM (MULTI-FAMILY <br /> RESIDENTIAL) ZONING DISTRICT; AND IN THE DOWNTOWN SPECIFIC PLAN <br /> AREA AS FILED UNDER CASE NO. P14-1276; AND REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. <br /> 145 <br /> WHEREAS, community members have expressed an interest in urban beekeeping, <br /> indicated that honeybees can safely be kept in urban environments, and listed benefits of <br /> honeybees, including pollinating fruit trees and vegetable crops; and <br /> WHEREAS, existing Ordinance 145, adopted in 1929, prohibits beekeeping in the City, <br /> with the only exception being in agricultural (A) zoning districts; and <br /> WHEREAS, this ordinance adds a new Pleasanton Municipal Code Chapter 18.103 <br /> (Beekeeping) establishing a permit process and performance standards for beekeeping on land <br /> in the A (Agricultural) zoning district; for properties with detached, single-family homes located <br /> in the R-1 (One-Family Residential) zoning district and RM (Multi-Family Residential) zoning <br /> district; and for properties with detached, single-family homes located in the Downtown Specific <br /> Plan Area. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON DOES <br /> HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: <br /> SECTION 1. It adds a new Chapter 18.103 (Beekeeping) for the Pleasanton Municipal <br /> Code as set forth in the attached Exhibit A. <br /> SECTION 2. It repeals Ordinance 145. <br /> SECTION 3. A summary of this ordinance shall be published once within fifteen (15) <br /> days after its adoption in "The Valley Times", a newspaper of general circulation published in <br /> the City of Pleasanton, and the complete ordinance shall be posted for fifteen (15) days in the <br /> City Clerk's office within fifteen (15) days after its adoption. <br /> SECTION 4. This ordinance shall be effective thirty (30) days after its passage and <br /> adoption. <br /> The foregoing Ordinance was introduced at a regular meeting of the City Council of the <br /> City of Pleasanton on February 17, 2015 and adopted at a regular meeting of the City Council of <br /> the City of Pleasanton on March 3, 2015 by the following vote: <br /> Ayes: Councilmembers Brown, Narum, Olson, Pentin, Mayor Thorne <br /> Noes: None <br /> Absent: None <br /> Abstain: None <br />
