Project Grant#: 14-68 Earth Team,Sustainable Youth Waste Action,Berkeley,West County,$20,726.00-Funds from this <br /> grant will be used to take a comprehensive and long-term approach to Environmental Education by increasing contact hours with <br /> students and teachers during the entire school year, focusing investments of time and resources in selected core schools. Typical <br /> program components include: in class science investigations,service learning projects,community field trips,after school internships, <br /> assembly presentations an advanced internship(Sustainability Advisors). Goals of this project would be to educate students and <br /> increase awareness on campus and in the greater community about the importance of natural resource conservation,engage students to <br /> take action and increase students leadership skills,and connect with students with other schools to increase entrepreneurial and <br /> leadership skills and promote environmental stewardship and advocacy for the practice of the 4 R's. <br /> The total 2014 Expenditure Plan budget of$265,000 for Project Grants was approved by the Board along with the option to <br /> carry over all unexpended funds from previous grant years and expend if necessary. A total of$357,079.26 in Project Grants <br /> was awarded. <br /> Multi-Year Grants <br /> The Education Advisory Board awarded 2 Multi-Year Grants in the 2014 grant cycle. <br /> Multi-Year Grant#:12-75(3)East Bay Children's Book Project,Bags and Bins for Books,Oakland,West County,$4,000.00— <br /> Funds from this grant will be used to build at least 10 more book collection stands to keep increasing the number of drop off locations <br /> in Oakland,Alameda, Berkeley and Orinda. Future plans are to expand locations to San Leandro,Albany,Lafayette and others. <br /> Remaining funds will be used to purchase another 1000 reusable canvas bags to be handed out at back to school 2012 and at the <br /> annual Read Across America event. <br /> Multi-Year Grant#: 13-65(2)Castro Valley Sanitary District(CVSan),Multi-Family Food Scrap Recycling in Castro Valley, <br /> Castro Valley,East County,$5,266.65-Funds from this grant will be used to provide access to the third(organics including food <br /> scrap recycling)of three primary municipal solid waste services(organics,recycling,and garbage)and education that single-family <br /> residences have appreciated in Castro Valley for over 10 years. <br /> The total 2014 Expenditure Plan budget of$10,000 for Multi-Year Grants was approved by the Board along with the option to <br /> carry over all unexpended funds from previous grant years and expend if necessary. A total of$9,266.66 in Multi-Year <br /> Grants was awarded. <br /> Board Initiated Projects <br /> The Education Advisory Board awarded 1 Board Initiated Project Grant in the 2014 grant cycle. <br /> Board Initiated Grant#: B-I County of Alameda,Science in the Park—Event sponsorship,Hayward,West County,$1,000.00 <br /> —Sponsorship donation made to County of Alameda to help support the event"Science in the Park"on October 4,2014. <br /> The total 2014 Expenditure Plan budget of$60,000 for Board Initiated Grants was approved by the Board along with the <br /> option to carry over all unexpended funds from previous grant years and expend if necessary. A total of$1,000 in Board <br /> Initiated Grants was awarded. <br /> 2014 Funding Allocations <br /> ALARM Mitigation Projects Total Allocations for 2014 were as follows: <br /> Pursuant to the terms of the settlement agreement,the 2014 Board Communications, website $120.00 <br /> Expenditure Plan set aside$10,000 for mitigation projects for Mini-Grants $114,220.44 <br /> landowners in the vicinity of the landfill. The Education Project Grants $357,079.26 <br /> Advisory Board corresponded with ALARM(Altamont <br /> Landowners Against Rural Mismanagement)to notify them of Multi-Year Grants $9,266.65 <br /> the available funding.No applications were submitted for Board Initiated Project Grants $1,000.00 <br /> consideration during the 2014 funding cycle. The Board will ALARM mitigation projects $10,000.00 <br /> continue to communicate with ALARM regarding appropriate Fund administration $30,000.00 <br /> projects for funding. Total 2014 Allocations $500,000.00 <br /> Total 2014 Expenditures $521,686.36 <br />
