ATTACHMENT 3
Steven Bocian
From: Steven Bocian
Sent: Tuesday, December 02, 2014 5:11 PM
To: Steven Bocian
Subject FW: Notice of Neighborhood Discussion Regarding The City's Proposed Bernal Property
Off-Leash Dog Park
Dear Mr. Bocian,
Thank you for the email notice of the meeting. My husband, Chuck Hansen, and I will make every effort to
attend and voice our strong support for the planned dog park. We live at 1687 Laguna Creek Ln., which is close
to the project.
As you are no doubt aware, someone left flyers in our neighborhood raising concerns about increased noise and
traffic associated with the planned dog park, as well as possible impacts on property values. As I'm sure you
are also aware, the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine did a study of dog parks, finding that such
concerns, while common, were unfounded. Numerous other studies and experts have reached the same
conclusions, and those conclusions are borne out by the actual experiences at other dog parks. As studies and
experience have also shown, good dog park design, such as adequate size and how dogs enter the park (making
sure entering dogs come in to an open area and not a corner) help to prevent problems. Pleasanton is
presumedly the same as the nation in that households with dogs are outnumbering those with children. Having
adequate dog parks is a community benefit in giving owners a place to socialize and provide adequate exercise
for their dogs in a place where those who do not wish to be near dogs can avoid them. Well exercised and
socialized dogs make better canine citizens, benefitting all. Studies have shown that dog parks can increase
property values and bring visitors to the area, at least some of whom will make purchases locally. We hope that
you will be able to use studies, information from experts and the real world experiences at other dog parks to
reassure those people expressing concerns about the planned dog park.
Sincerely,
Joan Cambray and Chuck Hansen
1687 Laguna Creek Ln.
Pleasanton
Click here to report this email as spam.
t
