weather conditions and we ended up at 0% allocation, which was revised to 5% only
available after September 1, 2014. Zone 7 reported at its December 2014 meeting it has
10,300 A/F of carryover water available for 2015 demands as well now that the Delta is
flowing again. California Department of Water Resources conducted its first snowpack
survey on December 30, 2014 and found it to be at 50% of normal for this time of year.
This is a slight increase from the snowpack this time last year which was at only 20% of
normal. The snowpack is important because it is the continued source of our surface
water throughout the summer months as the snow melts into our reservoirs.
In addition to the state's situation, the efforts of local water retailers and Zone 7 have
begun to lead to some water supply alternatives for 2015 including the fact that Zone 7
now has a tentative agreement to purchase an additional 300 acre/ft from Yuba County
Water for a five year period at a fixed rate of approximately $470 ac/ft. In addition, Zone
7 has approved a one year purchase of 2,500 ac/ft of water with Contra Costa Water at
a cost of $200 an ac/ft. The Contra Costa County purchase still requires state approval
to finalize the transaction and both purchases represent an improvement, particularly if
there is no increase in the state's water allocation.
The next water liaison committee discussing public water policy for the Tri-Valley will be
held on Thursday February 5, 2015 in Pleasanton at 5:00 PM at the City Operations
Service Center located at 3333 Busch Road in Pleasanton.
Su b / Approved by:
- 4 1 /(1/
Daniel S th Nelson Fialho
Director o Operations City Manager
Services
Attachments:
1.
