He thanked her for her service to the community and wished her the best in <br /> whatever endeavor she chooses in the future. <br /> Vice-Mayor Pentin thanked her for her service, having already shared some personal comments. <br /> Councilmember Brown acknowledged and thanked Councilmember Cook-Kallio for their shared love of <br /> and help in retaining the historic homes and resources of Pleasanton while still allowing the <br /> improvements the city needs to move into the future. She said her Irvington High School students are <br /> privileged to have a teacher and mentor as committed to public service and government as she is. She <br /> thanked her for the personal sacrifices that come with being a Council member and wished her and her <br /> family the best in the next chapter of their lives. <br /> Councilmember Narum said that over the past eight years she has come to know Councilmember <br /> Cook-Kallio as a dedicated and successful teacher and public servant, and said she has no doubt that <br /> her calling as a public servant will continue with even more success. She congratulated her and her <br /> family, thanked her for a job well done and wished her the very best moving forward. <br /> OATHS OF OFFICE <br /> Alameda County Superior Court Judge Stephen Pulido administered the Oath of Office to Mayor-elect <br /> Jerry Thorne. <br /> City Clerk Karen Diaz administered the Oath of Office to Councilmember-elect Kathy Narum and <br /> Councilmember-elect Ame Olson. <br /> REMARKS <br /> Mayor Thorne thanked Judge Pulido for, once again, being willing to swear him into office. He thanked <br /> Matt Morrison for having the courage to put his name out there to serve and for running a sound <br /> campaign. He thanked the 13,151 voters who voted for his re-election, committing to be deserving of <br /> their trust, and said he would strive to become the Mayor of choice for the 6.393 who voted for Mr. <br /> Morrison. He said he is humbled that a country boy like him, having grown up in a financially challenged <br /> family headed by a single widowed mother in western Tennessee, could find himself Mayor of the city <br /> reported by the U.S. News and World Report as the fourth best place to live in the county. He thanked <br /> his family, particularly his wife Sandy, for enduring the emotional roller coaster that accompanies each <br /> campaign. He also thanked all those who worked so hard on this and previous campaigns and to the <br /> members of the community who opened their homes to him. He thanked the community for allowing <br /> him the honor of serving this great city as its Mayor and said he was confident this equally great <br /> Council would accomplish many wonderful things over the next two years. <br /> Councilmember Kathy Narum said she is both humbled and grateful that the voters have given her <br /> another opportunity to continue the work she started when first elected to the Council some eighteen <br /> months ago. Against the backdrop of the city's robust and ever-growing economy, she shared her <br /> excitement over what she hopes to accomplish during this next term. She thanked her family for their <br /> ongoing support, several key members of her campaign for their tireless work, and the other candidates <br /> who pushed her to be the very best version of herself. She congratulated Councilmember Olson on his <br /> victory and said she looks forward to working together this next term.
