(within the existing rate structure) a 96-gallon cart for commingled dry recyclables
including paper, cardboard, glass, aluminum and plastic similar to the material collected
as part of the City's residential recycling program. If a commercial account determines
that additional capacity (more than 96-gallons) is required to meet its recycling needs,
PGS provides customer consultation to recommend appropriate cart/container
capacity/configuration to meet service needs. As part of this process, PGS attempts to
facilitate recyclable carUcontainer options without impacting existing collection rates.
However, if additional capacity is needed, then the prevailing rates for additional
containers apply.
Currently, Stopwaste.org is enforcing the Commercial Recycling Ordinance and has
been in communication with the City regarding the few customers that are not in
compliance. In general, compliance is the responsibility of the customer, not PGS or the
City, but similar to other cities implementing the Ordinance, there are significant
logistical problems related to inadequately sized trash enclosures which require
collection bins to be placed outside of ash enclosures in parking lots and other
locations, multiple businesses sharing one enclosure or container, suitable locations for
additional containers, etc., that continue to be a challenge for the program. However,
PGS is continuing to work with the City and customers in an attempt to solve these
issues.
Regarding Phase II, (commercial organics collection), staff is currently reviewing a
proposal for PGS to implement this service and is in discussion with Stopwaste.org in
an attempt to develop a program that is both cost effective and meets customer needs.
Discussion with PGS is ongoing and staff is hoping to have an agreement within the
next 60days.
Submitted by: Reviewed by: 11 Approved by:
 Gl,^U
Steven Bocian Emily Wa er Nelson Fialho
Assistant City Manager Director of Finance City Manager
Attachments:
1.
