7. Police <br />Waived full reading and adopted Resolution #14 -714 approving the Citizens' Options for Public <br />Safety Program (COPS) Year 18 Appropriation <br />MOTION: It was m/s by Narum / Pentin to approve the Consent Calendar, as amended. Motion passed <br />by the following vote: <br />Ayes: Councilmembers Brown, Cook- Kallio, Narum, Pentin, Mayor Thorne <br />Noes: None <br />Absent: None <br />MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC <br />8. Proclamation proclaiming October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month <br />Vice -Mayor Pentin read and presented the proclamation. <br />Ann King, Executive Director, Tri- Valley Haven, thanked the Council for the recognition. She stated that <br />Tri- Valley Haven hosted its Pace for Peace as well as candlelight walk to commemorate the month and <br />help to spread awareness of those in need. <br />9. Readings by the Teen Poet Laureates <br />Teen Poet Laureates Maya Lyubomirsky, a senior at Foothill High School, and Nicole Tsuno, a junior at <br />Amador Valley High School, each read an original untitled poem. <br />10. Business Anniversary Recognition Presentation <br />Economic Development Director Ott acknowledged the 161 businesses celebrating milestone <br />anniversaries, ranging from 15 to 40 years, in Pleasanton. She introduced those present and called <br />special attention to the three businesses celebrating 40 years in Pleasanton — Adams Pool Solutions, <br />Shear Cuts, and Cosmo's Barber Shop. <br />11. Public Comment <br />Ann King, Tri - Valley Haven, announced several upcoming events: a holiday crafts fair on November 6, <br />2014 and the Thanksgiving and holiday program. She explained that the modest program provides <br />almost 1,000 Tri - Valley families with the food and gifts needed to celebrate the season. She <br />encouraged anyone interested in hosting a food or toy drive or making donations, particularly Safeway <br />certificates or gifts for teens, to contact her. <br />Judy Galletti, Citizens Alliance for Property Rights, urged the public to vote "no" on Measure BB. She <br />cautioned against the impacts the transportation tax would have on retail businesses, the local <br />economy and, ultimately, local jobs. <br />Fred Volking, Alameda County Taxpayer's Coalition, also urged the public to vote "no" on Measure BB. <br />He encouraged voters to learn more about regressive tax and to push for a plan that actually increases <br />transportation choices while reducing the carbon footprint. <br />John Huk addressed the Council regarding a tree matter on his property.
