THE CITY OF
13
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
PL£ASANTONe
September 2, 2014
Community Development
Traffic Engineering Division
TITLE: PRESENTATION ON THE BERNAL AVENUE AT 1-680 LANDSCAPE AND
GATEWAY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT AND MONUMENT SIGN; ADOPT A
RESOLUTION APPROVING THE GATEWAY MONUMENT SIGN
SUMMARY
The Bernal Avenue at 1-680 Landscape Improvement Project proposes to install a
gateway monument sign at this interchange. Since the gateway monument sign will be
installed within the operational highway right of way, Caltrans must approve the
installation of the gateway monument sign. One of the Caltrans requirements for
approving the gateway monument sign is that the City adopt a resolution of support for
the gateway monument sign.
RECOMMENDATION
Approve the installation of the gateway monument sign at Bernal Avenue at 1-680, and
adopt a resolution of support for the design (including the location and content of the
monument), construction, maintenance, and funding for the gateway monument sign.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
In October 2000, the City of Pleasanton entered into a development agreement with
GHC Bernal Investors, LLC (BIC). As outlined in the agreement, BIC is obligated to pay
for the Bemal interchange improvements. Included in the Interchange plan is the
installation of landscaping and monument signs and a portion of the $4.5 million dollars
paid to the City by BIC earlier this year will fund the construction of the landscaping and
monument sign.
The City of Pleasanton will need to maintain the monument sign; it is anticipated that
the annual cost will be approximately $1,000 per year in added maintenance.
