Subject: FW:The Ken mercer Sports Park SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL Provided to the City Council After Distribution of Packet From: Tuesday Mark Sent: Tuesday,, 0 June 03, 2014 9:48 AM Date / (T/ To: Mayor and City Council Subject: The Ken mercer.Sports Park Regrettably I cannot be at the City Council meeting this evening because of a schedule conflict that is unavoidable but I wanted to add my enthusiastic support to the long list of residents endorsing the renaming of the Pleasanton Sports Park to the Ken Mercer Sports Park. I had the good fortune to work with Ken for more than 30 years on projects that helped make Pleasanton the great place that it is All of you are aware of his passion for the community and the results are all over town.When I first came in contact with Ken it was in his capacity as a city councilmember. It became clear to me early on that as far as Ken was concerned community involvement in important projects in town was his priority and it should be mine as well Over the years, he and I became close friends and I regret that he is no longer here with us physically. I miss him. There is no question that the community is far better off for having had Ken in a leadership role. He put the community first. In particular, he put the kids first, so it is altogether fitting that to honor his legacy the Sports Park be renamed in his honor. We have a long history in Pleasanton of remembering major contributors to the betterment of our town. The names Bernal, Kottinger, Haugen, Bengston and Orloff come to mind.
