Attachment 1 <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 14- <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON, <br /> AUTHORIZING THE RENAMING OF THE PLEASANTON SPORTS AND <br /> RECREATION COMMUNITY PARK TO THE.KEN MERCER SPORTS PARK <br /> WHEREAS, Ken Mercer was served three terms on the City Council between 1976 and <br /> 1986; and in 1986 became the City of Pleasanton's first directly elected mayor and served in <br /> that position until 1992; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Commission conducted a public meeting on May <br /> 8, 2014 to consider and discuss renaming of the Pleasanton Sports and Recreation Community <br /> Park;and <br /> WHEREAS, considering Ken Mercer's stewardship of the City of Pleasanton for over 16 <br /> years and his leadership role in several of the City's parks and recreation facility projects, <br /> including but not limited to the development of the Pleasanton Senior Center and the expansion <br /> of the Pleasanton Sports and Recreation Community Park, it was the consensus of the Parks <br /> and Recreation Commission that renaming the Pleasanton Sports and Recreation Community <br /> Park was an appropriate way to recognize Ken Mercer's accomplishments and dedication;and <br /> WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Commission has recommended that the <br /> Pleasanton Sports and Recreation Community Park be renamed the Ken Mercer Sports Park. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL.OF THE CITY OF <br /> PLEASANTON DOES RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER THE FOLLOWING: <br /> Section 1: The name of the Pleasanton Sports and Recreation Community Park shall <br /> be changed to Ken Mercer Sports Park in honor and memory of Ken Mercer. <br /> Section 2: This resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage and <br /> adoption.. <br /> PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Pleasanton at <br /> a regular meeting held on June 3, 2014. <br /> I, Karen Diaz, City Clerk of the City of Pleasanton, California, certify that the foregoing <br /> resolution was adopted by the City Council at a regular meeting held on the 3rd day of June, <br /> 2014 by the following vote: <br /> Ayes: <br /> Noes: <br /> Absent: <br /> Abstain: <br /> Karen Diaz, City Clerk <br /> APPROVED AS TO FORM: <br /> Jonathan P.
