Attachment 1 RESOLUTION NO. 14- A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON, AUTHORIZING THE RENAMING OF THE PLEASANTON SPORTS AND RECREATION COMMUNITY PARK TO THE.KEN MERCER SPORTS PARK WHEREAS, Ken Mercer was served three terms on the City Council between 1976 and 1986; and in 1986 became the City of Pleasanton's first directly elected mayor and served in that position until 1992; and WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Commission conducted a public meeting on May 8, 2014 to consider and discuss renaming of the Pleasanton Sports and Recreation Community Park;and WHEREAS, considering Ken Mercer's stewardship of the City of Pleasanton for over 16 years and his leadership role in several of the City's parks and recreation facility projects, including but not limited to the development of the Pleasanton Senior Center and the expansion of the Pleasanton Sports and Recreation Community Park, it was the consensus of the Parks and Recreation Commission that renaming the Pleasanton Sports and Recreation Community Park was an appropriate way to recognize Ken Mercer's accomplishments and dedication;and WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Commission has recommended that the Pleasanton Sports and Recreation Community Park be renamed the Ken Mercer Sports Park. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL.OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON DOES RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER THE FOLLOWING: Section 1: The name of the Pleasanton Sports and Recreation Community Park shall be changed to Ken Mercer Sports Park in honor and memory of Ken Mercer. Section 2: This resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage and adoption.. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Pleasanton at a regular meeting held on June 3, 2014.
