It
is an important item with far ramifications.
This agenda item is a difficult item to analyze from the data.presented. I am disappointed that the staff analysis
does not present more detail as to the impact(both positive and negative)to the city of Pleasanton if
approved/rejected. The staff analysis appears to be a cut/paste of marketing material from CTC/TEP. The TEP
plan itself is from a more generic county perspective and does;not provide enough Pleasanton specific details to
justify a 100% increase(and extension) in the existing transportation tax.
Remember, you will be voting on Tuesday to RAISE TAXES on the citizens you represent. Whether "Son of
B" passes or not in November...you are voting now to raise taxes. Please make sure you fully understand what
you are voting for as it specifically applies to Pleasanton.
Some I have talked to view this tax increase as a "Bart to Livermore Bailout" or "Bullet Train To Nowhere Jr.".
Are we sure there's no other way besides a tax increase to finish up 84?
What exactly will be Pleasanton's $ returned from the tax?
I recommend you not vote on this matter until the city staff has presented a clear financial analysis of the direct
impact of the measure B type funds (existing and proposed). Otherwise, how can your vote be informed?
As always, feel free to give me a call if you have any questions.
Best regards,
David
