BACKGROUND
Measure AA is a half-cent sales tax measure on the June 3, 2014 ballot in Alameda
County to reauthonie and extend the existing tax for 15 years, until June 2034.
Seventy-one percent of voters in Alameda County passed the preceding Measure A in
March of 2004 to authorize the half-cent sales tax for 15 years. Measure A will expire in
2019. If approved, the measure AA tax would not be effective until the expiration of
Measure A in 2019.
Should voters approve the measure by two-thirds, Alameda County would use the
revenue to continue to support health services in the county. Measure AA funds health
services available to residents of Alameda County, including low income and uninsured
residents. Measure A dictates that 75% of the tax revenue must be spent on the
Alameda County public health system, including Highland Hospital. The remaining 25%
of the tax revenues is allocated by the Board of Supervisors based on heed for
healthcare services, to a network of providers throughout the county for medical
services; emergency care not covered by insurance or other sources; and public health,
mental health and substance abuse for services.
Mr. Bradley Cleveland, Measure AA Campaign Manager will be present during the City
Council meeting to provide information about Measure AA.
Submitted by: Approv by:
6'S'et
aria Ojeda Nelson Fiaiho
Assistant to the City Manager City Manager
Exhibit A: Ballot Measure Submittal Form and proposed ordinance
Exhibit B: Questions and Answers for Measure AA
Exhibit C: Arguments in Favor and Against Measure AA
Page 2 of 2
