This
email acknowledges receipt of your email to the City Council and the City Manager. Thank you again
for your interest in the City of Pleasanton.
Joanne Hall
Public Information Officer
From: Valerie Arkin
Sent: Tuesday, March 04, 2.014 3:59 PM
To: Mayor and City Council
Subject: EPSP item for meeting tonight
Hello Mayor and Council members,
I am requesting that you postpone any further work on the EPSP. If our
city meets the RHNA requirement until 2022, then continuing the work of
the task force as well as contributing more staff time for this issue just
doesn't seem to be an appropriate use of time or funds. In addition, if
the city were to develop this land now, it is very possible that the city
could be asked to develop more land in the future for even more
affordable housing. Lastly, and very importantly, there is a significant
impact to our schools with the development in this area. Since the
school district is already faced with building another elementary school in
the northwest corridor, building yet another school is a concern for our
community and its students. As you may know, there is no longer any
state school facilities bond that helps with the construction of new school
facilities. As such, districts must find other ways to pay for new schools.
Postponing any further work on the EPSP would give the school district a
better chance to plan for additional school facilities in the future. I again
ask that you halt any further work on the EPSP at this time.
Thank you for your consideration,
