I
also have heard that some Councilmember's may be getting impatient with the negotiation
process with our group. I can assure you we are working diligently to respond to the ordinance
that you provided us in December. We do not have a staff, or a lawyer that comes at no cost to
us personally, therefore we do the detailed work to examine and provide comments to the
ordinance around our family and work schedules. I would also like to remind you it took the city
over three months to respond to our first set of comments in December. We have being working
on your offer for about a month - including over the holidays.
As I expressed to Nelson, we need a couple of weeks to pull all our comments together, have
them reviewed by our attorney, and then provide a response to you. I told Nelson that we would
be happy to have a status meeting with the subcommittee now to give you an update and to fill
you in on our broad concerns with your proposal. We tentatively selected February 3rd or 4th,
but it turned out those dates would not work for the Council. It appears now that this meeting is
being pushed out to the second week of February.
I don't think any of us wants litigation, and that we can work this out without going down that
path. I would ask the council to not short circuit this process and avoid that unpleasant outcome.
Thank you
1
