February 4, 2014 Community Services TITLE: APPROVE THE LOCATION OF THE PUBLIC ARTWORKS, "PENNINGTON" AND "SYLVESTER AT THE VALLEY HUMANE SOCIETY SUMMARY On April 19, 2011 at its regular meeting, City Council approved the purchase of the public art pieces, "Pennington" and "Sylvester", as part of the Harrington Public Art Acquisition Plan Phase II. "Pennington" and "Sylvester" are bronze sculptures. This report recommends that they be installed at the Valley Humane Society facility located at 3670 Nevada Street in Pleasanton. The property owners at 3670 Nevada Street have agreed to have the pieces placed on their property. In accordance with the City's Public Art Program, "Pennington" and "Sylvester", were approved by the Public Art Selection Subcommittee. On January 6, 2014, the Civic Arts Commission unanimously agreed to recommend placement of "Pennington" and "Sylvester" at the Valley Humane society facility. CIVIC ARTS COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION That the City Council approve installing the public artworks "Pennington" and "Sylvester" the Valley Humane Society located at 3670 Nevada St. RECOMMENDATION That the City Council approve installing the public artworks "Pennington" and "Sylvester" at the Valley Humane Society located at 3670 Nevada St. FINANCIAL STATEMENT The artworks "Pennington," and "Sylvester" which are valued at $23,200, have been donated to the City by Nancy and Gary Harrington. Pursuant to the terms of the Harrington Art Partnership, it is the City's responsibility to coordinate and pay for the installation of the public artworks. The cost of installing the piece is estimated between $2,000- $4,000 and will be funded through the Public Art Acquisition Fund # 038-900- 4385.
