THE CITY OF 9 <br /> CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> pLEASANTON. <br /> February 4, 2014 <br /> Community Services <br /> TITLE: APPROVE THE LOCATION OF THE PUBLIC ARTWORKS, <br /> "PENNINGTON" AND "SYLVESTER AT THE VALLEY HUMANE <br /> SOCIETY <br /> SUMMARY <br /> On April 19, 2011 at its regular meeting, City Council approved the purchase of the <br /> public art pieces, "Pennington" and "Sylvester", as part of the Harrington Public Art <br /> Acquisition Plan Phase II. "Pennington" and "Sylvester" are bronze sculptures. This <br /> report recommends that they be installed at the Valley Humane Society facility located <br /> at 3670 Nevada Street in Pleasanton. <br /> The property owners at 3670 Nevada Street have agreed to have the pieces placed on <br /> their property. In accordance with the City's Public Art Program, "Pennington" and <br /> "Sylvester", were approved by the Public Art Selection Subcommittee. On January 6, <br /> 2014, the Civic Arts Commission unanimously agreed to recommend placement of <br /> "Pennington" and "Sylvester" at the Valley Humane society facility. <br /> CIVIC ARTS COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION <br /> That the City Council approve installing the public artworks "Pennington" and "Sylvester" <br /> the Valley Humane Society located at 3670 Nevada St. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> That the City Council approve installing the public artworks "Pennington" and "Sylvester" <br /> at the Valley Humane Society located at 3670 Nevada St. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> The artworks "Pennington," and "Sylvester" which are valued at $23,200, have been <br /> donated to the City by Nancy and Gary Harrington. Pursuant to the terms of the <br /> Harrington Art Partnership, it is the City's responsibility to coordinate and pay for the <br /> installation of the public artworks. The cost of installing the piece is estimated between <br /> $2,000- $4,000 and will be funded through the Public Art Acquisition Fund # 038-900- <br /> 4385. <br />
